"These are my postcards - reminders to myself that I did see such things, or at least thought I did. These are photographs of memory rather than photographs of information; a green door in a crumbling desert village will not tell the armchair traveller much about Mauritania, but evokes a very strong sense of that place in my mind.

For me this approach to photographing places informs me far more than the postcard variety of the town square with its neatly arranged cafes and picturesque horse and buggy waiting to take bored tourists on a 'sightseeing' tour."
